Winter Guards

JUNIOR VARSITY

This extra-curricular ensemble is an auditioned group of middle school and high school performers.  Each season this unit strives to introduce and expand the concepts seen as fundamental within the winter guard activity – pushing past a rudimentary understanding of individual skills and developing an understanding of their combination in performance.  While some students have some experience in this particular group, others might be participating for the first time; creating a collaborative atmosphere that accelerates the development of its youngest members.  As evidence of its consistent success, the group has been promoted into new levels of CWEA judging classification multiple times – often competing with units entirely composed of high school students.  Students that participate within this ensemble will find a unique opportunity to develop life skills through an artistic, group performance.

VARSITY

This extra-curricular ensemble is also an auditioned group but consists of high school performers that have demonstrated the advanced performance skillsets found within its shows.  While this group is considered the flagship of the color guard/winter guard, it is often found in collaboration with the Junior Varsity Winter Guard through joint practices and tutoring opportunities.  Students within this unit have developed their individual skills and performance mindset to handle the demanding responsibilities of this top group.  Driven by the outstanding commitment of its staff and students in recent years, this unit has earned several notable accomplishments at the competitive CWEA and WGI events that it attends.  Students that participate within this ensemble thrive in an instructional environment of elevated expectations and accountability, while being simultaneously focused on the expressive and collaborative qualities that characterize a meaningful performance.
