Middle School Bands

This instrumental music program is designed to teach 6th grade students the fundamentals of music through playing a band instrument.  In addition to music, students will learn the value of teamwork, creativity, self-expression, discipline, and perseverance.  Best of all, band will be fun and enjoyable.  It is our desire that band be a subject your child looks forward to everyday!  Students that have chosen to continue their musical development in 7th and 8th grade will continue to learn individual musicianship and performance skills through the use of method books and band literature.  These classes will also focus on developing group awareness and greater sensitivity to music. Your student will be challenged to play higher, lower, slower, faster, louder, softer…just overall better.

6TH GRADE BAND

This ensemble is comprised of students that want to continue their elementary school music studies.  With the foundation that these teachers set with note recognition, rhythm reading, and reading music...new band students are able to focus on the mechanical aspects of playing a new instrument.  While each student begins by playing one of four instruments (flute, clarinet, trumpet, or trombone) - after an introductory period of general instruction, students that are interested in other instruments begin the selection process to "fill out" the vacant sections in the ensemble.

7TH GRADE BAND

This ensemble begins exactly where 6th grade band concluded.  Reinforcing the fundamental skills taught during their first year of band, students are introduced to new concepts that help strengthen their awareness of individual and group performance.  With the addition of more challenging music,  7th grade band extends a student's understanding of their instrument...improving tone production, range, technique/dexterity, and volume.

8TH GRADE BAND

This ensemble consists of the most experienced students within the middle school band program and offers a wide range of opportunities for individuals to showcase their skills as a musician.  Extra performance options include participation within select high school ensembles and/or participation within various clinics.  As the fundamental aspects of instrumental performance are refined, a focused approach toward preparing music will serve as preparation for any student who plans to participate in the high school band.  Students may also be introduced to chamber literature that features individual solos, selected duets-trios-quartets, and small ensemble works.
